Missing Kayaker Found Dead In Capital Region Lake After 16-Day Search

A western Massachusetts man who disappeared while kayaking at a lake in upstate New York has been found dead more than two weeks after he was reported missing.

The body of Hampden County resident Frederick Mayock, age 47, of Springfield, was recovered Monday, Nov. 7, from Canadarago Lake in Otsego County, located about 52 miles west of Schenectady, New York State Police said.

An official cause of death was not immediately disclosed.

Mayock had last been seen at around 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22, as he assembled a kayak near the lake, according to police.

His kayak was later found unoccupied, along with several other belongings.

“The New York State Police thanks the public who reached out with tips and information,” the agency said in a statement.

“NYSP also thanks the Richfield Springs Fire Department for the use of their watercraft and ALL of the agencies that assisted in the search efforts.”
